Markings for EX Trucks
Only Explosion Proof (EX) Equipment that has been tested and approved for use in Hazardous Classified Areas by a NRTL can be marked accordingly. EX Trucks must be clearly identified with the EX Marker and signs must be posted at the entrances to EX environments. EX Trucks must be marked with a warning label and must be marked with a nameplate showing the approved Class, Group and operating temperature.

EX Marker
Industrial Trucks approved for use in Hazardous Classified Areas must be designated with a specific marker. "To facilitate identification by operators and supervisory personnel, a uniform system of marking . . . shall be used." NFPA 505(2002) 8.4.1.1.2

The marking required by NFPA 505 and UL 583 for identifying Type Designation EX Industrial Trucks is illustrated below.EX

The width of the EX marker is 5 inches. The marker consists of a black border and lettering on a yellow background.

Gregory Industrial Trucks applies this EX marker to the sides of each Gregory EX Truck in a prominent position.

EX Entrance Label
Entrances to Hazardous Classified Areas, where EX Trucks are used, are required by NFPA 505 to be posted with the sign below.

Warning Label
EX trucks must be visibly marked with "a statement calling attention to the necessity for keeping the enclosures of electrical parts and wiring tightly assembled while in hazardous areas." UL 583 48.1d.

All Gregory EX trucks are marked with the following warning label:

Nameplate Marking
Classified EX Equipment is required to have a nameplate with specific markings. "Approved Equipment shall be marked to show the class, group, and operating temperature or temperature range referenced to a 40°C ambient." NEC 2002, Article 500.8(B)

The nameplate is provided by the testing laboratory and is affixed to the approved equipment. A standard Gregory nameplate for a Type EX Industrial Truck is below:

"Equipment not marked to indicate a division, or marked 'Division 1' or 'Div. 1,' is suitable for both Division 1 and 2 locations. Equipment marked 'Division 2' or 'Div. 2' is suitable for Division 2 locations only." NEC 2002, Article 500.8(B)
